"I have the incredible privilege to lead and work with an amazing group of staff, volunteers, and board members to assist those in need in our community. Lenize was a special education teacher for eighteen years. Then she heard there were 276 homeless children in Onslow County. A year later she started Philippians Place, a nonprofit organization, and soon resigned from teaching. Initially, Philippians Place provided transitional housing and mentored clients to help them find housing and resolve issues that had caused their homelessness. Ultimately, the program moved from transitional housing to a program designed to help people in housing crisis gain stability again through an earnings program of life skills classes that they attend to earn vouchers to buy at our resale store and necessity pantry.
