“Trust is faith that has become absolute, approved and accomplished. When all is said and done, there is a sort of risk in faith and its exercise. But trust is firm belief, it is faith in full bloom. Trust is a conscious act, a fact of which we are aware.” E.M. Bounds
"Trust is a conscious act..." Somehow, I never really thought about that. I can choose to trust God. Like faith, for a long time, I thought you either trusted, or you didn't. But Mr. Bounds is right, we can choose, no, we must choose to trust God, to have faith that He will always have the best way for us to proceed. Yet often we forget to go to Him first. We try to solve our own problems, read "how to" books, watch videos, go to conferences, consult with friends, etc. Yet, what if we immediately went to God to ask for His help and guidance? His Word promises again and again that He is a faithful God who is always with us and will guide us when we allow Him, too. And choosing to trust Him is something we must do each time a situation arises; it is not a one time trust for too often we forget or just don't have the faith and trust we need. It is also good to reflect from time to time how many ways God has helped us already. Doing this will build our trust and keep us more mindful of going to Him first.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7
And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for the good. Romans 8:28
Trust in him at all times, oh people; pour out your heart before him' God is a refuge for us. Psalm 62:8
